Artist statement: The humble echidna is not only one of our lovable Australian animals that trundles around gobbling up ants, this remarkable little monotreme is unique and very important for our environment. Echidnas’ construction of foraging pits in the soil promotes healthy microbial communities and ecosystem function.  Their activities help improve soil quality.
